Big stores, planning studios and a new small format
Most IKEA jobs are in the large blue-and-yellow stores near major cities. The Plan and order points are compact studios where customers design kitchens and wardrobes with an IKEA planner, and the newest ones opened in Kelowna and Gatineau.
The next step is a small store at White Oaks Mall in London, Ontario. At about 43,000 square feet it is roughly a fifth of a regular IKEA, carries more than 2,000 items and needs a complete team.
The teams inside an IKEA store
IKEA calls every employee a co-worker, whatever the job. A store runs on these teams, and most of them train beginners on the floor.
Sales
Helps customers plan rooms and keeps the showroom in order.
Checkout and returns
Runs the tills, the returns desk and order pickup.
Logistics
Unloads deliveries early and keeps flat packs in stock.
IKEA Food
Cooks and serves in the store restaurant and Bistro.
Planning
Designs kitchens and closets with customers, one on one.
Småland
Looks after children in the supervised play area.
