Baristas at company-run Starbucks cafés earn $16.30 to $18.55 an hour and shift supervisors $20.80 to $23.00. These are the rates Starbucks prints on its own postings, and within each city every café pays the same.
Most openings are for those two jobs, posted one per café and renewed about every 90 days. The rest are for café leaders, who earn a yearly salary instead of an hourly rate.
How to read a Starbucks posting

Salaries for café leaders also shift by region. Assistant store managers in Blainville and Saint-Jérôme, north of Montreal, are posted at $52,600 to $63,050 a year, and a store manager in Elmsdale, Nova Scotia, at $59,400 to $78,450.
How the Starbucks interview works
Starbucks uses behavioural interviews: the recruiter or café manager asks about real moments, such as a customer you calmed down or a rush you got through. Have two or three short stories ready, plus a quick introduction of who you are.
Bring three to five questions of your own, and thank the interviewer in writing within 48 hours. If your application does not move forward, Starbucks tells you by email, so check your inbox and spam folder.
Starbucks training and the green apron
New partners get their basic training during the first month, with follow-up sessions on days 90 and 190. You wear the green apron over clothes that follow the Starbucks dress code for Canada, and free courses on the Starbucks Global Academy site are open from your first day.
Tips and team rewards at Starbucks Canada
Customers in Canada can tip baristas, and Starbucks Canada has announced more ways to do it, including inside its app. Tips are added to your hourly rate and vary from café to café, so no posting promises an amount.
Starbucks Canada has also announced a team reward: in any quarter when a café hits its sales, service and operations goals, its baristas and shift supervisors can each receive as much as $300.
A Starbucks café or a licensed counter: who hires you
About a third of the Starbucks locations in Canada are licensed counters run by other companies, for example inside grocery stores or on college campuses. The company running each one hires its own staff on its own website, with its own pay and perks.
If a posting sits on the Starbucks job board with a store number, it belongs to a Starbucks-run café and the pay on this page applies to you. Those cafés post openings in every province, from St. John’s and Charlottetown to Dieppe and Saskatoon.
💡 Pro tip: Starbucks itself suggests visiting a café before your interview. Order something and watch how the team handles the morning rush, then mention what you noticed when you sit down with the manager.
Starting your Starbucks application
Create your profile, select each café you can get to easily and apply to all of them in one go. If you have led a team before, apply as a shift supervisor too, since it pays about $4 more an hour.
Ask for around 20 hours a week if you want health and dental. Once you have them, 240 paid hours each quarter keeps them active.
